aphids: Small, green flies that are common pests among chili pepper plants.

blossom drop: A phenomenon during which chili pepper plants bear no fruit; can be caused by temperature conditions or pollination issues.

capsicum: The Latin name for a genus of plants whose fruit can be used for spices, or as vegetables.

capsaicin: An irritating chemical found in chili peppers which gives them their "hotness."

casein: A substance found in dairy products which can help ease the discomfort one might feel after eating a pungent chili pepper.

chile: An outdated spelling of the word "chili."

chili pepper: The fruit from plants in the capsicum genus.

chili powder: A powder made of dried chilies, and often combined with other herbs and spices such as cumin, oregano, garlic and salt.

chilli: A word meant to describe a dish which contains chili peppers but also meat and beans.

chipotle: A jalapeņo chili pepper which has been dried in a smoky environment.

dehydrator: A machine used to dry chili peppers faster and more thoroughly than the sun.

drainage: The flow of water from a plant container; necessary for the growth of healthy chili pepper plants.
